Poker is a card game played by two or more players. It is a game of betting, where players may raise or call bets placed by other players in order to win the pot. Players are also able to bluff, by placing bets without having the best hand. If their bluff is successful, they will win the pot.<\/p>\n

There are many different variations of poker, but they all involve a basic strategy and the same basic rules. Each player must ante something, which varies by game (usually a dime or less). Then the cards are dealt face up, with one card at a time being passed around the table until a jack is seen. The player receiving the jack becomes the first dealer. The turn to deal and to bet is then passed clockwise to the next player.<\/p>\n

A winning poker hand consists of five cards. The highest is a royal flush, which includes the 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace of the same suit. A straight contains 5 consecutive cards of the same rank (such as 8-5-3). Four of a kind is simply four cards of the same rank, and pairs are two matching cards of any rank. If hands tie on rank, the higher ranking card wins.<\/p>\n

In most cases, a player must bluff to win, and this requires good knowledge of game theory and the ability to read your opponents. It is also important to have strong emotional control, as it is easy to get frustrated and blame dealers or other players for bad beats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
