Poker is a card game in which players place an ante and then are dealt cards. Each player then places bets into the pot, and at the end of the hand the highest hand wins the pot. There are many different forms of poker, but all share the same basic rules.<\/p>\n
One of the keys to success in poker (and life) is knowing how to weight your chances. For example, even if you have only a weak starting hand in poker, with good bluffing skills and luck, you can still get far ahead of other players who have a better starting hand.<\/p>\n
When it is your turn to make a bet, you can either call, raise, or fold. Saying “call” means that you want to bet the same amount as the previous player. If you want to raise the bet, say “raise.”<\/p>\n
The next part of the game is dealing out the flop. Then each player gets to see the other four community cards and decide what to do with them. If you have a strong hand, you can continue to bet, forcing weaker hands out of the pot.<\/p>\n
Finally, the river is dealt. This card can make or break your entire hand. You can use it to complete your straight, flush, or three of a kind. You can also bluff with it, as it can scare off other players who may have a better hand than you. In general, late positions have more advantage than early ones.
