Poker is a card game that has developed into a game of skill and strategy. There are many variations to the game, each with a different set of rules. But the game always involves betting and minimizing losses with poor hands while maximizing winnings with good ones. It also requires a certain amount of psychology and reading other players.<\/p>\n
The game is played with cards and chips. Each player “buys in” for a minimum amount of chips. A white chip represents one unit, while a red or blue chip is worth two or more units. Each player is expected to place at least the minimum number of chips into the pot each turn.<\/p>\n
When the betting interval ends, all players reveal their hands and the highest ranked hand wins the pot. A poker hand consists of five cards. The Ace can be high or low, and the suits are spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs. There are also wild cards, which can take on whatever suit or rank their owner desires. The joker, for example, can be used as a wild card or the game may specify specific wild cards (dueces, one-eyed jacks, etc).<\/p>\n
