The Basics of Poker

Poker

Poker is a card game in which players bet into a central pot.

There are different types of Poker and each variant has its own rules and strategy.

The first player to put in a bet is called the “first bettor.” In some variants, the first bettor must place a minimum amount of chips (representing money) into the pot.

After each betting interval, all players have a chance to add their bets to the central pot. During this time, players may raise or check.

When all of the bets are equalized – that is, when all players have put in the same number of chips – a final betting round begins. After this, the cards are exposed and the highest ranked hand wins the pot.

The best natural hand is a straight flush, which contains five cards of the same suit. A straight can have an ace either high (A-K-Q-J-T) or low (5-4-3-2-1). If there are no straights, the highest natural hand is a royal flush.
