Poker is a card game played by two or more players. The game is characterized by betting, where each player puts chips into the pot before seeing his or her cards. Initially, Poker was played with just 2 hole cards. A round of betting follows, triggered by mandatory bets called “blinds,” which are placed into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer.
Players take turns revealing their cards in a clockwise manner, and the player with the best hand wins the pot. Some games, such as stud poker, are played with more than 7 cards, and there is a separate betting phase for each new card dealt. Depending on the rules of a particular game, there may be additional rounds of betting. Often, it is agreed upon before the start of the game how the winner’s winnings will be shared by the other players.
